Hydrogen Valley Südbaden
Driving forward the ramp-up of hydrogen in the tri-state region

3H2 and the network partners Infrastruktur-Trägergesellschaft mbH & Co. KG (ITG), Offenburg University of Applied Sciences, Klimapartner Südbaden e.V. and the French cooperation partner Pôle Véhicule du Futur and H2-HUB Schweiz on the Swiss side are jointly implementing the trinational project “Hydrogen Valley Südbaden”. This project supports the introduction of new hydrogen technologies across borders through investments, thereby promoting the ramp-up of the hydrogen economy in the Southern Upper Rhine-High Rhine region, Alsace and Northwestern Switzerland. The core of the project is the provision and procurement of corresponding infrastructure components, particularly with regard to the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises. In addition, the establishment of the technologies is to be underpinned by accompanying research and rounded off with a professionalization of the Trinational Cluster Initiative 3H2.

The project was awarded a prize as a flagship project in the “RegioWIN 2030” competition. As part of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), “RegioWIN 2030” aims to improve competitiveness in the regions through innovation and sustainability, thereby contributing to sustainable regional development.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs is funding the trinational lighthouse project “Hydrogen Valley Südbaden” with around 4.5 million euros from EU and state funds. In total, almost 8 million euros can be invested in the ramp-up of the hydrogen economy in the border triangle in the period from 2024 to 2027 with the funding.

The project is listed in the RegioWIN Booklet 2025, which showcases selected projects from the RegioWIN competition across Baden-Württemberg.

Hydrogen Valley Südbaden

The good thing for companies in the border triangle of Germany, Switzerland and France is that they can immediately receive investment cost subsidies of at least 45% for hydrogen projects without having to first submit a laborious application for funding. This is extremely convenient for companies and has never been possible before.
