Prüfstand H2-Loop im Rahmen von TransHyDE
RMA H2 test bench for the calibration of H2 measuring devices

The specific requirements in the gas industry regarding accurate billing of the energy consumed using calibrated measuring devices are essential.
As the largest single applicant within the TransHyDE lead project*, RMA is commissioning the world’s first hydrogen test bench for pipelines up to 300 mm in diameter in Rheinau.

Together with the Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), hydrogen standards are being developed which serve as reference measuring systems for the calibration of H2 measuring devices.

The technical data of the test bench for research and testing purposes is described below:

  • Qmin = 5 m3/h; Qmax = 6500 m3/h
  • Pmin: 8 bar; Pmax: 51 bar
  • Nominal sizes: DN50 bis DN300
  • Measurement uncertainty for the calibration value of a test specimen: 0,2% – 0,3%

This hydrogen test bench can be used to test and calibrate gas meters with 100% hydrogen and can also be made available to customers for research, testing and calibration purposes.

Commissioning took place in June 2023 and since August 2024 H2-Loop has been part of the state-approved test center GBW 12.

*The large-scale TransHyDE project is further developing and testing technologies for the transportation and storage of hydrogen. The ultimate aim is to find the right technology for every application. More information can be found at https://www.wasserstoff-leitprojekte.de/leitprojekte/transhyde
