Refueling with hydrogen in Freiburg

Fraunhofer ISE‘s hydrogen filling station was opened in March 2013 as one of the first 10 hydrogen filling stations in Germany. Since then, it has been used continuously by both the institute’s own vehicles and external vehicles. In addition to the filling station technology, the filling station also includes a PEM water electrolyzer to supply the filling station with hydrogen. With a production capacity of 0.56 kg of hydrogen per hour, this is a pilot-scale system that can supply up to 10 cars with hydrogen.

In addition to its role as a building block of the hydrogen filling station infrastructure in Germany, the filling station also serves as a research platform for testing components for hydrogen filling stations, for analyzing both long-term operation and hydrogen purity and for testing concept adaptations and much more.
