Baden-Württemberg aims to become climate-neutral by 2040, and to achieve this, it needs hydrogen. Concrete planning for the gradual conversion of the first pipeline sections to hydrogen transport is already underway: Starting in 2028, the Upper Rhine region will have access to Baden-Württemberg’s first hydrogen network, which will transport 100% hydrogen, via RHYn Interco. Starting in 2030, the South German Natural Gas Pipeline (SEL) is to be converted to hydrogen transport. Large quantities of hydrogen can then be transported to the Rhine-Neckar region and the greater Stuttgart area. The Lake Constance/Upper Swabia area is scheduled to be connected in 2035.

Corresponding transition paths for grid transformation based on five consumption regions in Baden-Württemberg demonstrate how the conversion of the existing gas infrastructure could be achieved by 2040. Through this transparent presentation of the projects, the company creates planning reliability for potential consumers, upstream network operators, and potential producers.
