Situated between the Rhine and the Black Forest, characterized by a charming landscape and a mild climate, the Ortenau district is the largest district in Baden-Württemberg. Over 432,000 inhabitants live here.
The energy transition is primarily being shaped at municipal level. The use of renewable energy (wind power, hydropower, photovoltaics) already has a long tradition in the Ortenau district. A large proportion of energy is already generated from renewable resources and this proportion is set to increase in the future. In addition, the project to create an integrated climate protection concept for the district was launched in spring 2021. The climate protection concept is intended to serve as a strategic decision-making basis and planning aid for future climate protection activities and result in short, medium and long-term measures.
