The IET Institute of Energy Technology at the University of Applied Sciences of Eastern Switzerland (OST) is shaping a sustainable energy future by conducting research and providing teaching in energy generation, distribution, and utilisation. It places great emphasis on developing innovations and working closely with industry partners to implement practical projects. The institute’s 41 researchers conduct applied research projects across five specialist areas in collaboration with industry and research organisations. They also share their expertise with stakeholders from industry, society, education, and further education.

The IET is leading a new collaboration called ‘H2-Lab: Lake Constance–Alpine Rhine Hydrogen Ecosystem’. In this project, twelve core partners from the energy and mobility sectors, along with eighteen associated partners, are working together to lower the barriers to a hydrogen economy in the region and actively drive it forward under the institute’s leadership.

A key component of this project is its connection to the German hydrogen backbone network, which is set to supply Lindau with hydrogen via an H₂ pipeline by 2032. This connection will enable the Lake Constance–Alpine Rhine region to effectively link up local hydrogen projects initiated by pioneering companies.

The project is funded by the Interreg Alpenrhein-Bodensee-Hochrhein (ABH) regional funding programme, the Gas Research Fund of the Swiss Gas Industry Association (FOGA) and the twelve participating partners from four countries.
