Review: This was the European Hydrogen Summit 2024 on November 8, 2024 in Strasbourg. Around 300 participants, 23 speakers, 1 handover of the Regional Hydrogen Strategy SüdwestBW, 1 handover of the baton. Thank you for your active participation and commitment to the hydrogen economy in the border triangle!

The annual 3H2 Forum took place this year under the name “European Hydrogen Summit” in Strasbourg and was co-organized by TRION-climate e.V., Pôle Véhicule du Futur, H2-Strasbourg and 3H2. Around 300 stakeholders from business, industry, research and politics came together on November 8, 2024 in the Siège Région Grand Est to discuss the current status and future development of the hydrogen ramp-up in the border triangle. The speakers from France, Germany and Switzerland and the lively discussions during the breaks showed that advancing the hydrogen economy can only succeed together – and above all: is possible together.

The first highlight of the day was the side event organized by Klimapartner Südbaden to hand over the “Regional Hydrogen Strategy Southwest BW” to the Baden-Württemberg Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection and Energy Sector, represented by State Secretary Andre Baumann.
The strategy aims to secure the supply of green hydrogen to local companies – and thus to secure the future of southwest Baden-Württemberg as a business location. To this end, a supply plan for regional companies with renewably produced hydrogen, including an implementation roadmap, was developed. In addition to the initiators’ group of chambers of commerce and industry and regional associations, all 12 districts in the Southern Upper Rhine, High Rhine-Lake Constance, and Black Forest-Baar-Heuberg regions, all 12 districts supported this effort. Under the leadership of Klimapartner Südbaden e.V., representatives from municipalities, district offices, economic development agencies, regional associations, and chambers of commerce and industry participated in the strategy process. Companies from industry and logistics, as well as the energy industry, also collaborated on solution ideas in roundtable discussions and workshops.
Andre Baumann accepted the strategy and pledged his support for its upcoming implementation. (More on this here: Strategy handover)

Following the strategy handover, the main program began, which was thematically divided into hydrogen production, areas of application, and transport and storage. Speakers from France, Germany, and Switzerland were able to speak in their native languages thanks to simultaneous translation and still be understood by everyone. Companies, organizations, and politicians made it clear that hydrogen is a current and urgent issue that must be addressed. Existing projects were presented, and possible future scenarios were discussed.

In addition to the program in the main hall, the breaks were used for lively networking. Various roll-ups from various stakeholders also provided stimulus for discussion.

At the end of the event, the 3H2 baton was passed from the French side to the Swiss colleagues. We are therefore delighted that the 3H2 Forum 2025 will take place in Basel. This is what cross-border cooperation looks like.

Next year in Switzerland, you can expect a rich and highly interesting event with top-class speakers from business and politics, insights into regional and international hydrogen projects, and current trends in technology, science, and research.
We look forward to welcoming you again!
