Hydrogen will play a key role as an energy carrier and raw material in the fight against climate change. For the fischer group, as an energy-intensive company, this presents challenges but also opportunities. The laser-welded tubes produced by fischer and the components resulting from further processing are heated in annealing furnaces to achieve the necessary metallurgical parameters for their intended application. Hydrogen is used as a protective gas in these furnaces. In the long term, gray hydrogen will be replaced with green hydrogen.
The plant’s logistics and industrial trucks will also be fully converted to fuel cell-powered technology with green hydrogen and electric operation in the future.
Hydrogen as an energy carrier with excellent storage capabilities in solid-state storage systems, combined with fuel cells, enables the reduction of line loads and thus more energy-efficient production. Green hydrogen will also be used for this purpose.
A significant portion of the fischer group’s products are used in the automotive industry. The stainless steel tubes, laser-welded along a longitudinal seam, and the production processes have been certified as H2-Ready by TÜV SÜD since 2022. fischer tubes ensure scaling effects in the constantly growing hydrogen economy.
The strategic partnership and investment in the hydrogen startup GRZ Technologies AG enables the fischer group to play a role as a supplier and sales partner for the products in the growing hydrogen economy right from the start.
The green hydrogen mentioned several times will be produced in-house at fischer in the future using electricity from renewable energies via its own electrolysis facility, and then be used in the areas described.
