3H2-On the spot #10: Production of cells for alkali electrolysers at John Cockerill
On the 8th of June 3H2-On the spot visited the John Cockerill factory in Aspach, France, to view its production facilities.

On the 8th of June, participants from France, Germany and Switzerland were invited to visit the John Cockerill plant in Alsace, where they gained first-hand insight into the production of essential components for modern hydrogen plants.

After a presentation of the group’s activities and the site, visitors were given an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the production of electrolysis cells. The high level of automation was particularly impressive, with state-of-the-art manufacturing processes enabling a single cell to be produced in just a few minutes. Around 250 of these cells are needed to form a 5 MW alkaline pressure electrolysis stack.

The visit offered a fascinating insight into the industrial application of hydrogen technology and provided a valuable opportunity for partners from the tri-border region to exchange ideas.

Special thanks go to John Cockerill and Pierre-Antoine Vicquery for their warm welcome and to Pôle Véhicule du Futur for co-organising this fascinating event.
